We had a stunning Fall day to photograph this family. Their youngest went to preschool with my daughter, Semi, who had a *very* hard time understanding why she couldn’t tag along for a playdate. When I arrived, the boys had just finished raking a huge leaf pile that provided for many Kodak moments. Plenty of leaf throwing and horsing around was had by all.
I was asked to donate a photo session to the Jewish Children and Family Service’s annual fundraiser. Having greatly appreciated the JCFS’s mothers’ groups I attended when I had a newborn, I immediately said yes. My photo session was included in a package where the winner got to meet Nancy Schon, the creator of the Make Way For Ducklings sculpture, and then have tea at The Ritz. The lucky winners brought their grand children along for this delightful afternoon downtown.
I do believe the photograph of Nancy sitting on mother duck is my FAVORITE photograph I’ve taken this year. The kids & adults played around on the ducks for a while before strolling across the Garden to the Ritz. There we had the finest tea party in Boston. Such a treat to get to know this family and to dine with an influential artist.
Such a treat to photograph these boys again and to see how much they’ve grown. The parents wanted a picture of the four of them for their holiday card. Last year, Buzz Lightyear’s spaceship happened to be instrumental in helping me capture the perfect shot. This year, the convincing item was Mom’s empty Starbucks drink with some leftover ice . . . just enough to pacify the little one for a minute. Below are some of the more casual shots of boys being boys.
I met Nina in 2001, when my husband and I rented their first floor apartment. Her son Kobi was 2 or 3 by then, and a few years later her daughter Ruby was born. It doesn’t surprise me to hear other people say they like being with Nina because she has good energy. She really does. And she has turned her energy and expertise into a business. Should anyone need guidance/advice on how to “feed your children well in a world that doesn’t” or a class that helps moms “prioritize their health to look and feel their very best”, contact Nina.
Nina recently made an e-book and asked me to photograph her family for the cover. I wanted to share two fun ones of her kids goofing around in between the more posed shots. When I first got there I had a few minutes alone in her kitchen and I was able to photograph a few of the yummy looking things laying around her kitchen, as well. Who knew seeds and nuts and grains could look so interesting!
This was a beautiful day down on the Cape. I found the girls’ bellies peeking out from under their tankinis irresistibly cute, and was very impressed by their barrettes – not just because they were lobsters, but because they stayed in place through the fancy part of the morning.
What you see below are photos of a sprinkler that “magically” turned off and on, proud grandparents, mom holding her 5 month old baby, and lastly a good laugh because mom just did a cartwheel.
And it was the twins’ 2nd birthday. Happy birthday sweet girls.
